Protect the Endangered Mexican Gray Wolf from Hunting in the United States
La causa
I grew up listening to my grandparents tell stories about the majestic Mexican gray wolf—a creature that knows nothing of hatred, war, or economic interests; its existence is a harmonious dance with the air it breathes. This noble animal has been hunted for many years, but thanks to the tireless efforts of compassionate people, we have helped ensure its conservation in the United States.
However, we now face an imminent threat: there are plans to remove the federal protections that have safeguarded this endangered species and to once again permit indiscriminate hunting on our lands. This is unacceptable. The Mexican gray wolf is more than a species; it is a symbol of our biodiversity and a reminder of our responsibilities to the planet and all its inhabitants.
Currently, only approximately 186 Mexican gray wolves remain in the wild in North America—an alarmingly low number that could decline even further if hunting is reinstated. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, the Mexican gray wolf is one of the most endangered mammals in North America. Its disappearance would be an irreparable loss to our ecosystem.
We propose maintaining and strengthening the Mexican Gray Wolf Conservation Strategy, which has been essential to the species’ recovery thus far. We also urge the authorities to impose stricter penalties for poaching and to develop educational programs that promote peaceful coexistence between humans and wolves.
We must take immediate action to ensure that future generations do not merely hear stories about these magnificent wolves, but can also marvel at their presence in our natural landscapes. Let us unite in demanding that the conservation measures allowing the Mexican gray wolf to remain part of our natural heritage be preserved.
We need to send this petition not only to Mexican conservation programs working to save the Mexican gray wolf, but also to conservation programs in New Mexico and Arizona. Together, they can help protect the Mexican gray wolf and put an end to poaching—not only of Mexican gray wolves, but also of other wolf species and animals facing the same threat of extinction. We must persuade lawmakers to prohibit the hunting of Mexican gray wolves and enact a new law banning poaching once and for all.
Sign this petition and help us protect the Mexican gray wolf before it is too late. Your voice can make a difference in saving this invaluable treasure of our wildlife.
