Protect the Dizzy Rooster's outdoor area
The issue
Please Note Donations for signing do not go directly to The Dizzy Rooster, they assist change.org in keeping this site running and promoting visibility of this petition.
The Situation:
The Dizzy Rooster has become a vibrant gathering space for the Scoresby community, but Knox City Council is demanding we tear down our outdoor dining area by September 22.
As a veteran-owned small business, we are committed to doing things the right way. When we sought to formalise and upgrade our outdoor space to ensure it met all requirements, we relied directly on the Council’s officially published "Street Trading and Outdoor Dining" guidelines. Those guidelines explicitly stated that permits applied to trading in car parking spaces.
Now, Council has admitted their own website was outdated—a "remnant from the COVID period"—but they are still demanding the immediate removal of the space, penalising our business for their own administrative failure. Losing this space will severely impact our business and remove a loved community hub.
Our Compromise:
We aren't asking for special treatment; we are asking for a fair go.
We have formally offered Council a fully compliant compromise:
- we will completely remove the physical decking and transition to a temporary, removable setup (tables, chairs, umbrellas, and DDA-compliant ramps) that aligns with standard street trading.
Our Ask:
We need your help to show Knox City Council how much this space means to Scoresby. By signing this petition, you are calling on the Council to:
- Grant a Stay of Enforcement on the removal of our outdoor footprint.
- Allow The Dizzy Rooster to operate a modified, temporary outdoor dining setup while the Council finalises its new parklet policies.
- Support local, veteran-owned businesses making genuine attempts to comply, instead of punishing them for Council's lack of transparency.
Please sign and share to help us keep our doors fully open and the community together!
