Many members of the Iranian community living in Portugal have been affected by insulting, defamatory, and false content published in online spaces, especially in Telegram channels such as “Life in Portugal.” In recent weeks, such content has harmed the dignity, reputation, and social standing of certain individuals, created an atmosphere of tension, mistrust, and division within the community, and placed innocent people under threat in physical, emotional, and financial ways.

This petition calls for urgent attention from the relevant authorities in Portugal. Its purpose is to protect the dignity, reputation, and rights of Iranians living in Portugal and to prevent the continued spread of insults, defamation, and false accusations that damage individuals and weaken the community.

These harmful behaviors do not only affect the people directly targeted. They also contribute to hostility, fear, and social division, undermining mutual respect and community cohesion. In serious cases, they can expose innocent people to threats that affect their safety, emotional well-being, and financial stability. A healthy and lawful society must reject hate, verbal abuse, and the malicious spread of false information.

We therefore urge the competent legal and judicial authorities in Portugal to review the published content carefully and take appropriate action in cases involving insult, defamation, or the dissemination of false information. Effective legal response is necessary both to protect those affected and to prevent the continuation of such harmful conduct in online spaces.

This petition also seeks to promote a respectful, safe, and lawful environment for everyone and to reduce tension and division within the Iranian community in Portugal.

Esta petição apela à atenção urgente das autoridades competentes em Portugal. O seu objetivo é proteger a dignidade, a reputação e os direitos dos iranianos que vivem em Portugal, bem como impedir a continuação da propagação de insultos, difamação e falsas acusações que prejudicam os indivíduos e enfraquecem a comunidade.

Estes comportamentos nocivos não afetam apenas as pessoas diretamente visadas. Assim, instamos as autoridades legais e judiciais competentes em Portugal a analisar cuidadosamente os conteúdos publicados e a tomar as medidas adequadas nos casos que envolvam insulto, difamação ou divulgação de informações falsas. Uma resposta jurídica eficaz é necessária tanto para proteger os lesados como para prevenir a continuação deste tipo de conduta prejudicial em espaços online.
