More than 11,360 signatures across the Bellarine and musical chairs at Spring Street

Hi all,
An amazing 1547 people have signed the Protect the Bellarine Protect St Leonards petition. So across the Bellarine more than 11,360 people have signed petitions, this is a substantial number and one the government surely cannot ignore.
We believe that the final decision maker for the Bellarine DAL is once again Lizzy Blandthorn. So in the past few months our understanding is that, that role has changed from Richard Wynne to Lizzie Blandthorn, handed to Lily D'Ambrosio and is now back again with Lizzie... phew!
Its frustrating to say the least and leaves the community unsure of what will happen. As Lawrence St. Leger, Chair of the Combined Bellarine Community Associations says, "So we still do not know if the government will protect our natural environments, our open spaces and its vegetation and native animals, the diversity of our wetlands, waterways and coastal beaches and dunes. Most importantly we are still left wondering if meaningful limits will be placed on the inappropriate development which threatens the beautiful Bellarine".
Here we are 4 years after the governments promise to protect the Bellarine, and we are still waiting.....
We will continue to keep you updated regarding any decision. We are hoping a decision will be made before the Caretaker period is declared for the upcoming state election.
Here are some of the reasons why you have signed the petition.
I’m signing because this wonderful area needs to be protected!
The coastal character of the Bellarine is changing with the urban sprawl and changes of boundaries. The natural beauty, serenity and environment need to be protected for future generations to enjoy.
We are all interdependent. We need more land for the environment and biodiversity, not less.
I am sick of seeing developers win over community. Then leave having destroyed a once idyllic area. I thought this was what the Bellarine distinctive areas was supposed to protect us from
The Bellarine provides critical habitat to many threatened species. Green space, bushland, parks and rural countryside must be preserved and rehabilitated for animals birds plants and also for enjoyment of people both residents and visitors. There is so much stress and development everywhere and so little opportunity for just living in peace in nature.
St Leonards is one of the few seaside towns left on the Bellarine that hasn't been completely overtaken by developers. Growth over the past few years has been massive, and the town is now beginning to lose it's village atmosphere and natural beauty. Please put a stop to those developers that wish to make money from destroying what is left.
To preserve the access to the walks and the existing golf course and protect the significant bird life and natural flora in the close proximity to the existing township.
I, too, am very concerned about unlimited development on the Bellarine.
The Bellarine is renowned for its open, green space - I don't want it to end up looking like the inner suburbs of Melbourne!
Let's keep St Leonards the way it is. We barely have the infrastructure that we need now, more housing will create more problems.
I’m in ocean grove and love st Leonard’s and don’t want it to change at all. The bird and fish life is amazing at this location.
It’s greedy developers building ugly in appropriate houses. Not suited to Australian conditions.
Part of the charm of the area are the farm-lands and beautiful country side. We don’t want smaller blocks of land ! Leave it as it is !
Someone needs to stand up and protect our very precious environment from mindless development, once it’s gone there’s no going back.
Too much land grab with developers scarring the beauty of our rich environments
We need to stop redevelopment . It will be another debacle . We need to save our habitats and native animals.
We need to protect the bird life and eco system. Developers are greedy for the dollar and the town is losing its rare natural beauty because of them. The services are not coping now, it’s time to stop this crazy ride!!
Overdevelopment negatively impacts the unique small coastal "fishing village" atmosphere that attracted us to St Leonards in the first place. Use the vacant land in existing residential developments, not create more.
Wetlands are too important for our bird life to be filled in and have more houses built. It goes against all contemporary sustainable building.
I am concerned about the loss of vegetation and the sprawling development in St Leonards, Indented Head and Portarlington. Town boundaries need to be drawn and adhered to.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
