I am delivering some very good news this afternoon. Firstly I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who signed the St Leonards Petition, to protect our township boundaries. I have no doubt it has made a difference to the outcome that was announced this afternoon. As you are aware over 11,000 people across the Bellarine signed petitions.
I am very pleased to advise that the Andrews Labor Government is delivering on its promise to protect our beautiful Bellarine. The St Leonards township boundary will remain as per the draft statement of planning policy.
This locks in protected settlement boundaries for all townships across the Bellarine for the next 50 years, to ensure our agricultural areas, landscapes, environmental features, small villages and towns are protected from inappropriate development and direct future growth to strategic locations.
To change the township boundaries, will mean a change in legislation, not a trip to VCAT.
Once again thank you all for your support. This is a wonderful outcome for community, and that we have been listened to.
