Protect the Aravali Range from environmental devastation

Protect the Aravali Range from environmental devastation
The Issue
Growing up in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, the Aravali Range has always been a vital part of our community. Its ancient stretches provide us with essential water resources, acting as a green guardian against the encroaching desert from the west. It is a home to a spectacular array of wildlife and a rich variety of flora that enriches our lives every day.
The Aravali not only supports us humans but also safeguards the fragile ecosystems it contains. It is a refuge for countless species of plants and animals, some of which are endangered and rely solely on this habitat for their survival. The forests and grasslands of the range regulate climate, prevent soil erosion, and contribute to biodiversity, which buffers against environmental changes and global warming.
However, this bastion of life and sustainability is under dire threat. A recent judgment by the Supreme Court opens over 90% of the Aravali Range to exploitation by the mining mafia. If this destruction is allowed to proceed, it will decimate the Aravali, eradicating habitats, disrupting wildlife, abolishing water resources, and increasing the risk of desertification.
This ruling places our environment, our wildlife, and our own future in jeopardy. The relentless mining activities will carve away the hills, reduce the fertility of the soil, and lead to severe water shortages that will leave Rajasthan even more vulnerable to droughts. Such environmental degradation will have irreversible impacts on climate resilience and local agriculture, ultimately displacing communities who have coexisted with nature for generations.
We must act now to protect what’s left of the Aravali Range. To combat this threat, we propose halting any new mining operations immediately and enforcing stringent regulations to prevent further illegal exploitation. It is vital that we preserve the integrity and biodiversity of these hills by advocating for the creation and implementation of a comprehensive conservation strategy involving the local communities, environmentalists, and government bodies.
Let us come together to urge the authorities to reconsider the implications of their decisions and to recognize the ecological importance of the Aravali Range. Protecting the Aravali is not just about conserving nature; it is about preserving our heritage, our livelihood, and our future. Stand with us in defending this irreplaceable natural treasure for the generations to come. Sign this petition to make your voice heard and ensure that the Aravali Range remains a source of life for Rajasthan.
