Protect Students: Pastor Must Step Down
The Issue
Growing up in this church, I always believed in the safety and integrity it promised to nurture. This was my community, a place I thought of as safe and purer than the rest of the complicated world outside.
Parents and community members recently learned that a registered sex offender was working on the campus of Heritage Christian Academy in Haslet, Texas. It is deeply distressing to find out that the leader of this very church, a person entrusted with guiding this community spiritually, has blatantly disregarded the safety of school children by employing his adult son—a convicted sex offender of a 12 year old—at the church-owned private school which also has a daycare on property.
According to reports, the individual was employed as a contractor providing landscaping services and serving in a music-related role. He is the son of Pastor Eric Crawford.
Parents state they discovered his offender status independently. Only after this discovery was his work at the school terminated.
Community members have expressed that Pastor Crawford was aware of his son’s criminal history while allowing him to work on campus.
This situation has deeply shaken trust in the leadership of Heritage Baptist Church and Heritage Christian Academy.
Regardless of job title — employee or contractor — individuals with a history of sexual offenses should not be placed in roles that provide access to a school campus serving children.
Leadership decisions involving close family members require heightened transparency, accountability, and safeguards. Many families believe that standard was not met.
This petition calls for:
• The immediate resignation of Pastor Eric Crawford from leadership roles
• An independent review of hiring and contracting policies
• Clear written policies prohibiting registered sex offenders from working on campus in any capacity
• Transparent communication to families regarding updated safety protocols
This is not about personal attacks. It is about child safety, accountability, and restoring trust in the institutions that families rely on.
Therefore, we urge the leadership of the church to take immediate action by demanding the resignation of the pastor responsible for this alarming oversight. By doing so, we uphold the sanctity and moral integrity of our beloved church and school, a sanctuary that should remain uncontaminated for future generations.
