A wave of public outrage has erupted in Ordu, Turkey, following the circulation of troubling footage reportedly showing the death of a dog at the Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Animal Shelter and Rehabilitation Centre.

The footage captured serious welfare failures at the shelter, describing at least one animal being eaten by another dog. These clips reignited long-standing concerns about animal treatment within institutional care settings and spurred a strong public response.

In response to the online backlash, the Ordu Metropolitan Municipality released a statement confirming that it had initiated an administrative inquiry into the matter, emphasising that the footage was extremely distressing and that the situation was being examined from every angle.

The administrative investigation in Ordu represents an important step toward accountability. Transparency in the process, clear findings, and concrete reforms if needed will be critical not only for the individuals involved in this case but also for wider efforts to ensure humane treatment of animals under municipal care.
