We, the undersigned, oppose the approval of Conditional Use Permit (CUP) PRO2024-0252 for the proposed SpaceX telecommunications facility in DeBeque, Colorado and demand that the approval process be paused until full transparency, independent studies, and proper local oversight are ensured.

This project proposes to place 40 ground-based antennas on agricultural land, raising serious concerns about:

📡 Zoning Violations & Industrial Creep – The project is proposed in an Agricultural, Forestry, and Transitional (AFT) zone, where industrial-scale telecommunications infrastructure does not belong. If approved, this could set a dangerous precedent for allowing large-scale industrial projects on rural land with little local control.

🏡 Property Value Decline – Studies show that placing commercial infrastructure like telecommunications arrays in rural areas can lead to decreased property values and make it harder for homeowners to sell.

⚠️ Lack of Required Environmental & Health Studies – No independent Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or Health Impact Study (HIS) has been conducted, leaving major concerns about RF exposure, soil contamination, wildlife disruption, and water quality unanswered.

🚛 Increased Traffic & Infrastructure Strain – The project will increase heavy truck traffic on rural roads, potentially leading to higher taxpayer costs for road maintenance and safety upgrades—expenses that SpaceX has not committed to covering.

📜 Federal Overreach & Lack of Local Control – The FCC is backing this project, raising concerns that Mesa County’s role in regulating land use is being overridden. If this project is approved without challenge, it could set a precedent for federal agencies pushing industrial projects onto rural communities with little local input.

We call on the Mesa County Board of Commissioners to:
1️⃣ Pause the approval process until independent studies on health, environmental, and property impacts are completed.
2️⃣ Enforce zoning laws and reject the use of agricultural land for a corporate telecommunications facility.
3️⃣ Ensure local control over land use decisions and prevent federal agencies from overriding the county’s authority.

The approval process is moving quickly, and once approved, this facility will set a precedent that cannot be undone. We urge Mesa County officials to stand with residents, not corporate interests, and demand full accountability before allowing this project to proceed.
