Protect rural Hillsborough County

The Issue

Lithia Pinecrest Road is struggling under the strain of traffic it currently bears. Already, over 105 homes in River Ridge Reserve, 54 homes in Shetland Ridge, and schools with hundreds of teachers and over a thousand students have intensified the congestion. Recent developments, like the school across from Lithia housing 37 teachers and 520 students, and the school at the end of Tevalo Drive with 64 teachers and 750 students, have made an already precarious situation even more challenging. And now, the proposed additional 64 homes at the end of Olavet only promises to exacerbate this situation. Tragically, these mounting pressures have already led to two fatalities, bringing a deeply personal and heart-wrenching dimension to the issue.

The community of Hillsborough County is united in their concern. The rural charm of our environment, defined by sprawling agricultural lands and properties developed with ample space averaging one home per acre, is at risk. The proposed density increase for the Tevalo Hills development threatens to undermine this character by introducing high-density suburban development, altering the bucolic landscape forever.

Data supports the community's concerns. Studies have shown that such rapid and dense development can lead to increased traffic, road wear, noise pollution, and environmental degradation. Our infrastructure, particularly roads like Lithia Pinecrest, is already overburdened and ill-equipped to handle further stress without costly upgrades and expansions.

Now is the time for critical action. We urge the elected leaders of Hillsborough County to listen to the voices of their constituents. The need for responsible urban planning is crucial to maintaining the balance between growth and preservation. We call for an evidence-based approach to development that considers infrastructure capabilities, environmental sustainability, and quality of life for existing residents.

We demand that our representatives prioritize these values by opposing the proposed modification to the Tevalo Hills development. We need solutions that reflect the community's vision for Hillsborough County, ensuring that future generations enjoy the same natural beauty and livability that we have cherished for decades.

By signing this petition, you join a growing number of voices calling for responsible, thought-out urban planning that respects both the community and the environment. Your support is vital in preserving the character and safety of rural Hillsborough County for years to come.
