Protect Roxy, the Red Fox of Dauphin Island from Unjust Eradication

Protect Roxy, the Red Fox of Dauphin Island from Unjust Eradication
The Issue
Roxy, a wild but entirely non-threatening red fox, has been a resident and local celebrity on Dauphin Island's west end for years. She is known to many beachgoers, fishermen and wildlife enthusiasts who have watched her thrive in her natural habitat - a pristine 12-mile sand spit adorned with rolling dunes and sea-oats. However, the Town of Dauphin Island plans to eradicate Roxy from this area in order to convert it into a "Bird Conservation Area".
Roxy is more than just another animal; she symbolizes the rich biodiversity of our island. She greets fishermen who toss her an occasional fish and has even been successfully treated for beach mites by me. A friend and I visit her regularly, bringing raw chicken legs and cheese to supplement her diet as she forages on local crabs, fish and whatever else she can find.
The proposed plan threatens not only Roxy's existence but also disrupts the balance of our local ecosystem. It is crucial that we respect all forms of life that contribute to making Dauphin Island unique.
We urge the town authorities to reconsider their decision and explore alternative solutions that can accommodate both bird conservation efforts without displacing or harming our beloved fox. Let us stand together as a community committed to preserving all wildlife on our beautiful island.
