I wanted to make sure you all had the most recent update from the ACLU regarding a legal case on SB10 which includes many local districts, including Birdville. I recommend following ACLU and that case for updates as it proceeds through the legal system.
Additionally, I wanted to share that I have stepped up to be a Precinct Chair. Things continue to feel heavy and that calls me to action. So, what the heck is a Precinct, and what does a Precinct Chair do? A county election precinct is the basic unit of voter registration. A Precinct Chair is simply the local representative of the Party and its candidates for our specific voting area.
If you are feeling called to action as well, I suggest finding and getting plugged in with your local precinct or some other organization you feel best aligns with you. If you are in Tarrant County you can look up your precinct by looking up your voter information here. You can then find your PC for Tarrant County Dem. here. You would follow a similar process for each county/party etc. No chair? Maybe you should consider it!
If you are in Texas and in Senate District 9, please ensure you have a plan for the runoff election that is happening now. See polling location information here.
Keep an eye out for the Bluebonnet RLA Curriculum that is slated for adoption in many districts in the next school year, if not already done so. ACLU wrote about that here if you are not familiar with it yet. You can reach out to your district Director of Curriculum & Instruction for information/clarification. I know that Birdville will be adopting it in 26/27. If you would like to file a complaint with ACLU on this, you can do so here.
Thanks for being engaged and taking part in our local democracy. If you want to stay in touch, find me on socials @xmarialorrainex
This will be my last update here. See you out there.
