To the West Sacramento City Council:

We, the undersigned residents and business owners of West Sacramento, urge the City Council to protect reliable waste service, maintain reasonable rates, and ensure meaningful community input before making any decision to replace WM as the City's waste service provider.

For years, West Sacramento families and businesses have depended on WM for essential waste services. Any decision to change providers will affect every household and business in our community and could have long-lasting impacts on service, rates, and customer experience.

At the August 10 Environmental & Utilities Commission meeting, community members voiced concerns about significant rate increases, service reliability, and the lack of public engagement in the process. The Commission recommended that additional community outreach be conducted before moving forward.

Despite those concerns, the City staff is continuing to advance discussions regarding a new service provider before residents have had a meaningful opportunity to review the proposals, ask questions, and understand the full impacts of this change.

We believe residents deserve:

•  Affordable and reasonable waste collection rates.
• Reliable service from a provider with a proven track record.
•  Transparency regarding the costs, risks, and impacts of any proposed change.
• Meaningful community engagement before decisions are made.
• Accountability from elected officials on decisions that affect every resident and business.

We ask the City Council to:

 1. Conduct additional public outreach and community meetings.

 2. Fully disclose all rate impacts and service changes associated with each proposal.

 3. Carefully evaluate the financial burden any rate increases may place on residents and local businesses.

 4. Consider the benefits of maintaining a proven provider with an established history of serving West Sacramento.

 5. Delay any final decision until the community has had a meaningful opportunity to participate in the process.

West Sacramento residents deserve a transparent process, affordable rates, and dependable service.
