The Issue

Fishermen, motor boaters, and water sports enthusiasts in Maple Grove, MN, are being adversely affected by regulations that cater to an exclusive small group of lakeshore owners' preferences.  Some are requesting additional regulations.  The City of Maple Grove is currently reviewing and considering changes to it's lake regulations.

Here is what we want:

  • NO NEW BOATING RESTRICTIONS on Maple Grove lakes.  Maple Grove has an excessive list of additional lake regulations beyond the DNR, which already provides a comprehensive set of regulations for all MN lakes.
  • REMOVE THE 9AM NO-WAKE RESTRICTION on Fish Lake.  All lake users should have an equal opportunity to enjoy the lake in the morning. This regulation unfairly restricts the rights of those who want to use the lake before work in the morning, especially fishermen getting to their spots and water skiers who value the calm morning water.  All users can safely share the lake in the morning, as can be observed with other lakes.
  • REMOVE OR RAISE THE 892' NO-WAKE ELEVATION on Fish Lake.  Fish Lake frequently reaches this 892' level throughout the years during typical rain storms.  892' is not an unusually high disaster level.  Due to this exclusive regulation the City imposed a no-wake restriction for 19 days in 2024 and 21 days in 2023.  This regulation does NOT exist on any other lake in Maple Grove and it restricts recreation without justification.

Together, let's voice our concerns to the City of Maple Grove. Urge them not to introduce further regulations that infringe on our rights, and to remove or reconsider existing rules that unfairly restrict the rights of recreational boaters.
