Despite widespread community opposition and expert concerns, the Planning Minister has now called in both the Tourist Park and the Coochin Fields Festival Site proposals at Coochin Creek.
As reported by the ABC, the Minister made this decision following a personal request from the developer—a deeply concerning move that bypasses the normal planning process, risks limiting access to information and community voices, and removes appeal rights.
📖 Read the ABC article here:

These developments would cover nearly 200 hectares of land directly opposite the Ramsar-listed Pumicestone Passage, Coochin Creek, and National Park. If approved, they would have irreversible environmental and planning consequences—a “wrecking ball” through one of Queensland’s most sensitive ecological areas.

📢 What  you can do now:
Contact your local MP and express your concern about the Minister’s decision. Kendall Morton is the Caloundra MP and her office email is caloundra@parliament.qld.gov.au
CC the Deputy Premier (deputy.premier@ministerial.qld.gov.au) and call for:
- a fully transparent process, including public release of all documentation and assessments.
- the referral of the proposal to the Federal Government under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act. The developer is legally required to do this but has not.
