The Issue

I have witnessed grieving families, minors struggling to keep their households united, and cancer patients yearning for tranquility in their own homes being bullied and harassed by the misuse of nuisance laws. They have been ticketed, watched, and scared into believing that their very existence on their own property is wrong. People who have paid their dues society, only to find that the only thing that hits harder than a cancer diagnosis, is to have being unwelcome driven home by tickets every week they cannot keep up. This mistreatment weighs heavily on my conscience as we strive for a community built on respect and fairness.

The properties in Ellet, Akron, OH are not part of a gated community, and every resident has the undeniable right to maintain their possessions on their own land, as long as no laws are broken and no harm is caused. Unfortunately, the nuisance department, an entity designed to assist, has been weaponized by those driven by racism and avarice, aiming to drive residents out and profit from flipping properties. This aggressive orchestration to oust families from their homes has persisted for far too long and creates an alarming spike in trespassing incidents, which further exacerbates tensions in our neighborhood.

In a city like Akron, where taxes are paid diligently, residents should feel secure and unthreatened in their homes. This is a call to reform the operations of the nuisance department and introduce checks and balances to ensure it functions to truly uphold the well-being of all residents, rather than serve as a tool for exploitation and intimidation. Or, better yet, abolish the over-reaching ordinances, and maintain the ones that make sense:

Your quality of life is affected by downed power lines. Not a yard that’s a week overgrown 2 streets away.

Immediate action is required to review the misuse of power within our locality. By signing this petition, you are supporting a fair reevaluation of how nuisance complaints are handled, ensuring no individual or family feels watched, targeted, or pushed out unjustly. Help us reclaim our rights, demand transparency, and advocate for policies that resonate with equity and justice for every Ellet resident. Sign now to stand against wrongful trespassing, discrimination, and the unjust use of influence that jeopardizes the peace and security of our community. Together, let’s ensure Ellet remains a place where residents' rights are respected and upheld unconditionally. Sign the petition to make a change.
