We the undersigned express deep concern over a religious procession that occured on 7 July 2025 in Melbourne, during which a large group of Muslims commemorating a religious celebration called Ashura paused outside St Patrick's Catholic Cathedral and chanted through loudspeakers in Arabic.  This use of amplification  and coordinated chanting created an intimidating and disrespectful atmosphere for Christians.  

If the situation were reversed - if Christians gathered and chanted over loudspeakers around a mosque - it would likely be viewed as unacceptable and investigated by Police.  This raises questions about equal treatment, community standards, and protection for all religious groups.
