Public Drop-In Success, New Evidence Uncovered, and Our Next Legal Steps

Following the massive turnout at the library drop-in event, our campaign is moving forward with significant momentum. Here are the latest updates on our fight to protect Penicuik’s green fields:

Drop-In Success & New Evidence: The library event was incredibly well-attended. Thanks to residents digging into the details, we have uncovered massive technical and legal barriers regarding Sites R25, R26, and R27. This includes unowned "ransom strips" blocking access, historical maps showing protected Public Open Space, and severe SEPA surface flooding risks.

FOIs Submitted to Get the Facts: To make sure planners cannot downplay our community's concerns, we have launched two formal Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. We have requested all internal correspondence with Scottish Water regarding the R26 raw water aqueduct, alongside the exact financial repair and maintenance backlog figures for our primary schools.

Widening Our Reach: Our community Facebook group has grown to nearly 400 members, and we now have a dedicated campaign email address (penicuikgreenspaces@gmail.com) to coordinate our efforts. We are also contacting the Penicuik Town Crier to place a community notice to reach residents who are not online.

⚠️ The Big Reminder: Planners have confirmed you do not need to use the complicated online portal to object. Sending a direct email in your own words to ldp@midlothian.gov.uk is much simpler and legally just as valid. You must include your full name and postal address/postcode, or your objection will be voided.
