I am writing to enlist the help of neighbours in making our community safer. I am concerned about the crosswalk going east/west along Nanaimo at Grant street (in front of To Live For Cafe, for reference). 

I cross here almost daily, and each time I try to cross (usually with a stroller and/or toddler in tow) I am shocked at how many cars don’t stop for me and how fast they go past. On one occasion, I was waiting there with my baby and 5 cars went by without stopping, in daylight at 3:30pm on a sunny day. I worry not only for myself, but also for the many children from nearby Lord Nelson Elementary school who use this crosswalk to go home. Given the high volume of pedestrians, including customers going to To Live For Cafe and who will be going to the new restaurant across Grant, I think a safer option is to put in a pedestrian light like there is further down Nanaimo at Charles.

I have sent a request in to 311 to change it to a pedestrian traffic light, but the more people who send in the request, the better. I created this petition to demonstrate the necessity of making this crosswalk safer.
