The Issue

My daughter means more to me than anything else in the world. She is the light of my life, and there is nothing I desire more than to have her by my side. She wants her mom above all else, and I want her more than anything too. However, my ability to retain full and legal custody of my daughter is being challenged by the state of Michigan and its Department of Health and Human Services.

In our community of Kalamazoo, Michigan, families should be the ones to determine their future—together. It is crucial for parents and children to have the opportunity to remain united, fostering a healthy and loving environment. But when state agencies wrongfully intervene and threaten to separate families without just cause, it undermines the sacred bond between parent and child.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, over 23% of American children live in single-parent homes, many of which struggle against systemic policies that often do not reflect the best interests of these families. When a child's preference is to stay with a parent who can provide a loving and stable home, those wishes should be prioritized.

I am committed to raising my daughter in a caring, stable environment where she can thrive. I have taken all necessary steps to prove my capability and willingness to provide for her needs, both emotionally and physically. Now, I am asking the authorities to acknowledge our family's right to remain together and to protect the bond we share.

We must demand accountability and sensible policy changes that put family unity first. Join me in calling on the state of Michigan and the Department of Health and Human Services to respect my right to retain full legal custody of my daughter, allowing her to live in a loving home where she truly belongs.
