The Issue
On January 30, 2025, a young student from Woodlands Middle School was struck and killed by a semi-truck right outside their school. What should have been a normal day ended in tragedy, leaving a family devastated, students in shock, and a community mourning the loss of a child who had their whole life ahead of them.
No parent should have to fear that their child won’t make it home from school. No student should feel unsafe just trying to cross the street to get to class. But with large trucks passing through school zones during the busiest times of the day, this tragedy was only a matter of time.
This isn’t about blame its about change. Its about making sure this never happens again. Schools should be safe zones, not high risk areas. There should be no reason for semi-trucks to be anywhere near students when they are arriving at or leaving school.
