THE FIGHTS NOT OVER YET…

We all heard the Sheriff say that he is no longer considering our field for the Correctional Campus. Since then, we have been doing research and listening to Matt Plummer who appears to be trying to continue with the project. We became concerned and reached out to the Sheriff. Good morning, Sheriff Johnson. I live in the River Ranch neighborhood. Our neighborhood is concerned with Matt Plummer's recent statements made on Facebook and his contact with a local environmental leader, inquiring what would constitute your decision to vacate the jail project at the Eastside road property. We are concerned Plummer will attempt to circumvent your decision. Your assurance that the Eastside Road property has truly been abandoned for this project would help alleviate that our anxiety. Thank you. The Sheriff's response: Chris. I do not have the sole autonomous authority to cancel the lease contract or cancel the project all together. My authority is to dictate operations of the Shasta County Sheriff Office. Therefore it does have to go through the BOS for final decision. However, none of the Board has seen the pre- environmental biological report yet so they do not fully understand the significant hurdles facing the project. I wouldn’t be worried at this point, give Supervisor Plummer time to review and get briefed on details and the specifics. He is a thorough and thoughtful minded Supervisor. (but ultimately i cannot promise you anything as i do not speak for him or the Board). The lease can only be terminated by the County with a 30-day written notice. There is a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday 8/11 at 9 AM at 1450 Court Street. We need to be present at that meeting and speak up. Make sure you get properly signed up to speak online prior to the meeting please. Again a reminder comment protocol has been changed. Supervisor Kelstrom has reached out to us to meet but with only a few people. We will see what he has to say and make sure that he is truly supporting our neighborhood.
