Protect Our Privacy: Stronger Laws for Biometric Age Verification Systems
Protect Our Privacy: Stronger Laws for Biometric Age Verification Systems
The Issue
As the government brings in more and more age checks the concern rises, how will this data be used and how can we be sure that its is instantly delete. We are calling for stronger laws to set out clear guidelines for how this data can be used and deleted.
Protecting children online is an important goal, current laws do not provide sufficient safeguards for the collection, storage, sharing, and deletion of biometric data used during age verification processes.
Biometric data if leaked, sold, misused, or accessed by unauthorized parties, carries risks can last a lifetime.
We are calling for stronger legislation that ensures:
All biometric data is automatically deleted after verification unless explicit informed consent is given.
Independent audits are conducted to ensure compliance and security.
Companies face significant penalties for misuse, breaches, or unlawful retention of biometric information.
Individuals have the right to know what data is held about them and to request its immediate deletion.
Children's biometric data receives additional legal protections.
Biometric age verification systems are transparent, accountable, and subject to public oversight.
Protecting children online can be done while still ensuring adults data is protected and secure.
We urge goverment to introduce strong legal protections and clear regulations regarding the use of biometric data in age verification systems to ensure both online safety and the fundamental right to privacy.
