Protect Our Pollinator Habitat from Becoming a Parking Lot
The Issue
On Pearl Street in Livingston Manor, NY, a former community garden has transformed itself into a thriving pollinator habitat. It boasts a mature bounty of milkweed, the prime necessity for the Monarch butterflies' survival! But now, the town is considering leveling it and putting in a parking lot.
Healthy pollinator environments are disappearing. With this plot, we have a unique opportunity to preserve one.
But time is of the essence as the town board has expressed the intent to begin repurposing this delicate area for parking.
We all realize parking on Main Street is a problem, but we don’t think this location is the solution, as it is in a flood zone. A pollinator garden is the perfect use for this narrow lot that leads to the creek—a favorite pathway for deer to get a drink.
With a bit more care, very little oversight, and no expense to the town, this precious, small space can continue to be a thriving environment that will provide a massive benefit to all our local bees and butterflies.
Please sign this petition to save this ideal pollinator spot from becoming a parking lot.
