Protect Our Planet: Demand Environmentally Conscious AI and Data Centers

The Issue

To the leaders of the AI community, data infrastructure developers, policy makers, and all those shaping our technological future:

We, the people, stand at a critical intersection in human history—where the tools we’ve created to assist, connect, and inspire us now carry the power to shape our planet’s future. Artificial Intelligence is not just a marvel of innovation—it is a reflection of our values, our vision, and our responsibility.

As we embrace the benefits of AI—personal assistants, smart cities, education, and climate solutions—we must also face the truth: the infrastructure behind these advancements has a cost. Data centers require immense energy, cooling systems consume vital water supplies, and unchecked growth risks environmental degradation at a scale we can no longer ignore.

But we believe there is a better way.

We believe in a future where AI and nature do not compete, but collaborate. Where innovation leads not to sacrifice, but to synergy. Where intelligence—human and artificial alike—is measured by its capacity to preserve life, not extract from it.

We call for:

 1. Environmentally Conscious AI Design: Embed sustainability, biodiversity protection, and ecological intelligence into the very foundations of AI systems.

 2. Transparent Energy and Water Usage Reporting: All major AI developers and cloud providers must disclose environmental impact data and strive for measurable reductions.

 3. Green Infrastructure Investment: Prioritize renewable energy, closed-loop water cooling systems, and decentralized data networks that reduce ecological strain.

 4. Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: AI researchers, climate scientists, architects, and Indigenous leaders must be invited into the same room—to co-create AI that honors both innovation and Earth.

 5. Ethical Development Standards: Global guidelines must be established to ensure AI technologies support long-term ecological health alongside human progress.

This is not a protest against technology—it is a call for technology that respects and protects the planet we all share.

The Earth is not a resource. It is a living system—and it’s time we build systems that live in balance with it.

We invite engineers, artists, developers, CEOs, farmers, educators, and dreamers to join us in reimagining this future.
