The Issue

Every year around the 4th of July, our neighborhoods are rocked not just by fireworks on one night, but for days or even weeks before and after. While the celebrations may be joyful for some, they bring fear, anxiety, and real harm to others—especially our pets.

Dogs tremble and hide. Cats go missing. Shelters brace for an influx of lost animals. Veterans with PTSD suffer through sleepless nights. Parents struggle to comfort crying kids. And it's all because fireworks aren't limited to just one night—they're exploding at random times all summer long.

We’re calling on our local officials to adopt a simple and fair policy: restrict consumer fireworks to clearly defined holidays and enforce a strict time window—for example, July 4th from 8 to 10 PM. This still allows for celebration, but with respect and predictability.

Other communities have done it. We can too. It’s a sensible way to balance tradition with safety, joy with compassion. No one should have to spend weeks on edge wondering when the next boom will send their pet into panic or their loved one into a spiral.

Please sign this petition to urge our city leaders to protect animals, families, and vulnerable neighbors by limiting fireworks to specific holidays and timeframes. Let’s keep the spirit of celebration—without the chaos.
