Protect Our Neighborhood: Stop Dangerous Speeding Near Our Middle School
Protect Our Neighborhood: Stop Dangerous Speeding Near Our Middle School
The Issue
Residents, parents, and community members are asking for immediate traffic safety improvements along Baker Street and Hazeltine Avenue between Newland Avenue and Delaware Avenue in Jamestown, NY.
For too long, this area has experienced excessive speeding, dangerous driving behaviors, and ongoing loud motorcycle and vehicle noise that affects the safety and quality of life of everyone nearby. Many drivers accelerate aggressively through this corridor, creating unsafe conditions for pedestrians, bicyclists, families, and especially students attending the nearby middle school (Persell - Jamestown Public Schools).
What makes this situation especially concerning is that these roads are heavily traveled by children and families every day. Residents have repeatedly witnessed speeding vehicles, racing-style driving, and excessive noise at all hours. It is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured if action is not taken.
We are asking city (Jamestown) and county (Chautauqua) officials to work together to improve safety in this corridor through traffic calming and enforcement measures.
Potential solutions include:
- Speed bumps or speed humps
- Increased traffic enforcement and speed monitoring
- “Your Speed” radar signs
- Raised crosswalks and pedestrian safety improvements
- Additional stop signs or traffic control review
- School-zone safety enhancements
- Motorcycle and excessive vehicle noise enforcement
- A formal traffic safety study for the area
Baker Street may be a county road, but this section runs directly through city neighborhoods where families live, children walk, and residents deserve to feel safe.
This petition is not about punishment for drivers. The petition is about prevention, safety, and protecting our community before a tragedy occurs.
Please sign and share to support safer streets for our neighborhood, our families, and our children.
