Sudden Cardiac Arrest and Exertional Heat Stroke are two of the leading causes of SUDDEN DEATH of HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES. There are only a few precious minutes to respond to save their life! Our high schools are not prepared.
Our voice is stronger when we speak together. No matter what state you live in, passing this bill will affect your states' legislation because this is creating a nationwide movement. Every school should have safety measures in place that will save someone's life. Unfortunately, many schools do not have AED's or staff trained to use them to treat Sudden Cardiac Arrest, or Cold Water Immersion tubs that are ready and waiting to treat Exertional Heat Stroke when the temperature gets too hot. Athletic Trainers are professional medical personnel, but only about 1/3 of schools in the United States employ an Athletic Trainer, some of which are part-time.
The Legislature will reconvene next week and begin voting on the bills that are already in circulation. The Athlete Safety Bill is now with the K-12 Appropriations Subcommittee for discussion and vote on a budget. This petition is copied to each member of that Subcommittee and we will update those contacts as it moves through the House and Senate.
Adding your name to this petition shows that you support this movement to protect our kids. Please re-share this petition every day for the next week to ensure as many people as possible have the opportunity to join us. We need Legislators to have no doubt that this bill has the support of the people. High school students, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, school staff, coaches, and school board members in every state of our great nation: you have student athletes you care about. This bill includes members of band and cheer too. Make sure they are safe when they are working to be the best at what they love to do!
