Protect our homes and wildlife, preserve loss from Greenbriar Village at Pinewalk
The Issue
The view that most cherish—of towering trees, melodious birds, and the gentle rustling of leaves—are going to be just fragments of the past. Today, this sanctuary is being destroyed . A massive proposed development Greenbriar Village at Pinewalk is carving out thousands of acres of our precious preserve, replacing it with a sprawling stretch of concrete that will house 3,500 homes. Developers have assured their home buyers will back onto these preserves in an attempt to bolster their aesthetic appeal. However, they have carelessly placed a new roads next to existing neighborhoods with very little buffer, 50 feet in some areas that currently enjoy the preserve. The developers aren't considering the impact on those of us who already live here—the shifting landscapes, the noise, the increased traffic. Our quality of life is being traded away for a massive number of new homes.
The loss of untouched land is not just an aesthetic tragedy but an environmental one, destroying habitats for countless species and disrupting delicate ecosystems that cannot be easily revived.
A more balanced approach could include preserving significantly higher buffer of the natural habitat around the new road's not removing so much of the preserve to make room for “more” homes, maintaining the ecological balance while accommodating existing homes. This will reduce noise and existing homes still have preserve to look at instead of their roofs and street noise. The Greenbriar developers have included reserve space within for their buyers but not around the edges, ignoring existing homes. The area is a a great place to live for a reason, let’s not destroy the reason by adding massive communities. We can add to the need with reasonable developments not “massive” ones, without destroying why we love it here.
This is not merely about opposing new homes; it is about crafting a future that respects the past and preserves what little untouched land we have left for generations to come. We implore our local government, city planners, and the development committee to revisit this project with a collective clarity and conscience. It is time for community-centered planning that envisions spaces capable of integrating man, nature, and wildlife.
Sign this petition to demand a reconsideration of this massive development project at Greenbriar Village before more trees are cut, the wildlife is displaced, and the irreversible changes are made. Let's hold those in power accountable not just to builders but those who live here and the views, peaceful nights and our precious wildlife.
