About the Our Peaceful Protest Blog
A community-driven campaign blog, dedicated to amplifying the lived experiences and urgent demands of refugees and asylum seekers stranded in Agadez, Niger.
The people of the Agadez Humanitarian Centre have been protesting peacefully for over 290 days, making this one of the longest-running refugee demonstrations in the world, but barely anyone is talking about them. This blog is a living archive of the experiences, courage, and daily resistance of refugees and asylum seekers stranded in Agadez, Niger.
We bring together first-hand testimonies, contextual analysis and clear calls for action, all in one place, for a single purpose: to break the silence and fuel solidarity.
Why follow the blog?
You join a growing network of people who believe that human rights are not negotiable and that every life and every voice matters.
To bear witness
Every day, families in Agadez wage the world’s longest peaceful refugee protest. They fight not for luxuries, but for dignity: food, safety, and a future for their children.
To hold power accountable
We document the use of food as a weapon, when aid meant to keep children alive is instead used to punish peaceful protests. We report on medical neglect, arbitrary arrests, violence against nonviolent demonstrators, and the erasure of voices who dare to speak up.
By listening, sharing and acting upon their stories, we can challenge the officials and agencies responsible for implementing policies that leave real people without protection or hope.
See the story beyond the headlines
When global coverage fades and official statements swirl with big words or omissions, this space gathers direct testimonies, independent reporting, and real-time updates, so you can see what’s happening, why it matters, and what can be done.
To take meaningful action
We believe the dignity and future of Agadez families depend not just on what happens in Niger, but on the choices and solidarity of people everywhere. That’s why each post offers concrete steps: from amplifying refugee voices to supporting grassroots aid and pressing leaders for real change.
