Protect Our Families: Safe Military Housing

Protect Our Families: Safe Military Housing
The Issue
To the Honorable Members of Congress, the Department of Defense, and Military Leadership:
Military families—those who sacrifice for this nation—are suffering due to unsafe and uninhabitable housing. Privatized military housing companies neglect their duty, exposing families to mold, water contamination, and other hazards. Our spouses, children, and service members are falling ill, while those responsible turn a blind eye.
Imagine sending your loved one to serve, only to find their home making them sick. Picture a deployed service member’s spouse fighting against mold creeping through the walls, toxic water, or infestations harming their children’s health. Families are ignored, gaslit, and denied support while struggling with chronic illness caused by these unsafe conditions.
Our own family experienced this firsthand. We waited months for repairs, citing health issues, only to have the service order canceled. When work finally began, they recklessly tore open walls and ceilings, exposing our entire family to even more toxins. After locking us out of our home, they conducted their own testing and withheld the results due to liability concerns. Independent testing later revealed mold spore counts exceeding 950,000 in our children's room and toxins throughout the home. We were relocated to a second house, only to face similar environmental hazards, while fighting a system that failed us at every turn. Instead of receiving support, we encountered skepticism and dismissal from leadership. Our children’s health suffered, we lost our family dog, most of our household belongings, and we continue to bear the consequences of exposure to toxins with lifelong medical diagnosis for our children.
This is a systemic failure. Independent tests confirm extreme environmental hazards, yet housing companies refuse accountability. Insurance claims are denied, leaving families to bear the financial burden of medical bills and temporary housing. When military families seek answers, they are met with bureaucracy and retaliation.
We demand immediate action: We need urgent reform before more military families suffer—sign and share today!
- Bring awareness to the hazardous conditions in military housing and the serious health risks they pose to families.
- Hold housing companies financially accountable for failing their contractual obligations under the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI).
- Enforce strict housing safety standards and increase oversight.
- Guarantee medical care and support for families suffering from exposure to environmental hazards.
- Seek alternative housing solutions by terminating contracts with negligent vendors and selecting ethical companies that prioritize military families.
Military families deserve safe homes, clean water, and air that won’t make their children sick. We will not be silent. We stand together, demanding our government protect those who protect our nation.
