A Petition to the City of Charleston

We, a Community of Ecoliterate Citizens, call for the posting and protection of our City’s ecologically sensitive areas, especially ALL of our salt marsh ecosystems.  Our salt marshes:

• Attenuate storm surge energy, saving lives and property.
• Can store up to 1.5 million gallons of flood water.
•  Reduce heat health hazards through evapotranspiration.
•  Sequester carbon and filter stormwater pollutants.
• Provide natural habitat for fish, shrimp, oysters, crabs, birds and pollinators.  
• Provide health and wellness benefits for both residents and tourists.
