Protect our community from Speeding

The Issue

Hummingbird Lane is a quiet, family-centered street filled with children riding bikes, parents walking strollers, and neighbors gathering in front yards. But for years now, our peace and safety have been threatened by reckless speeding drivers using our street as a shortcut or residents failing to obey posted speed limits.

Despite previous outreach and concern expressed by residents, nothing meaningful has been done to slow traffic. The speeding continues—day and night—and it's only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt. We refuse to wait until tragedy strikes. A year ago, a car overturned on our street and then a biker was hit by a car. And what has the city done in response?

We, the undersigned, are demanding that the City of Aliso Viejo take immediate and permanent action to calm traffic on Hummingbird Lane.

Specifically, we are asking for:

  • Installation of speed bumps, stop signs or other physical traffic calming measures
  • Increased signage and neighborhood traffic enforcement
  • A transparent timeline for assessment and action
  • A review and reduction of the posted speed limit from 25 mph to 15 mph
  • A plan with LBUSD and Durham transportation for safety measures with bus stops

This is not just an inconvenience. It’s a safety issue. We’ve seen near misses, honking, and cars racing down a street where kids play and cross every day. We've shared our concerns at community meetings, spoken to the city, and gathered feedback from dozens of neighbors—the consensus is clear: we need action now.

Help us protect our children, pets, and neighbors. Sign this petition to urge city officials to prioritize safety and invest in the well-being of our community by installing speed-reducing measures on Hummingbird Lane.

Your signature matters. Together, we can turn concern into change.
