Protect Our Communities: Ban Kratom in New York

Kratom, sold at gas stations, is a public health crisis waiting to explode. With relapse rates of 78%-89% within 3 months, this unregulated substance causes addiction, tolerance, and deadly overdoses.

This issue is personal: someone I care about, sober from heroin for years, became addicted to Kratom after trying it as a “natural” anxiety remedy. Their life was devastated until they sought rehab, where many others were battling Kratom addiction too.

The FDA has even found heavy metals in Kratom products. Without regulation, people face risks like seizures and respiratory failure. Detox centers are overwhelmed, yet awareness is alarmingly low.

Seventeen U.S. states and 15 countries, including the UK and Canada, have already banned or restricted Kratom. New York must act now. Let’s protect our loved ones and communities.
