Protect Our Children’s Education: Oppose the $4.9Mil Cut to Fairfield’s School Budget

The Issue

My daughter was born with a rare genetic disorder which we only became aware of after 4 months post-birth. Throughout her entire life, she will need to participate in special education programs. This unforeseen situation has made us fierce advocates for our daughter's education, and it is the main reason why we chose to live in Fairfield. However, we find ourselves in a precarious situation. The first selectman is proposing a massive $4.9 million reduction in the education budget of our town - a budget that funds indispensable facets of our children's schooling, including teacher salaries, healthcare, transportation, special education (so vital to families like ours), IT spending, world language curriculum, building expenditure, and other integral student programs. This, while Fairfield stands as one of the most heavily taxed towns in the state and continues to become more upscale, with every new house on the market selling for over $1 million. We demand fair distribution of resources. We find it confounding that while our taxes persistently rise, our children's education is at risk of being truncated, and the first selectman’s office continues to dole out remarkable salary increases. Our families, and most importantly, our children deserve the best, especially given the financial contributions we make. Therefore, we urge you to stand with us and demand the reversal of the proposed cut to the education budget. Please sign this petition to support the future of education in Fairfield.
