Protect Our Children: Make Aster & Mojave Intersection Safe Now

Protect Our Children: Make Aster & Mojave Intersection Safe Now
The Issue
Every weekday between 3:15 and 3:40 PM, hundreds of students in Adelanto are dismissed from school and cross the intersection of Aster Road and Mojave Drive. What should be a routine walk home has become a serious safety hazard. This intersection is notorious for heavy traffic congestion, speeding vehicles, and a lack of pedestrian safety measures, all of which pose a significant threat to the safety of our children.
Currently, this intersection has:
Faded crosswalks that are barely visible to drivers.
No student-crossing signs to warn approaching vehicles.
No flashing beacons or pedestrian signals to give children a safe time to cross.
No crossing guard to guide students and manage traffic.
As a result, children are crossing in large groups, sometimes diagonally, while cars continue driving through, turning around them, and nearly hitting them. On rare occasions, a sheriff is present to direct traffic, but this is inconsistent and cannot be relied upon.
This is an avoidable tragedy waiting to happen. We should not wait until a child is injured—or worse—before action is taken.
We understand the City faces budgeting challenges, but the cost of inaction will be far greater—in legal liability, in damages, and most importantly, in human life. Preventative measures are a fraction of the cost compared to the lifelong impact of a preventable accident.
Our Call to Action
We, the undersigned, demand that the City of Adelanto immediately prioritize safety improvements at the Aster & Mojave intersection. At a minimum, we request:
- Immediate repainting and enhancement of crosswalks to ensure they are bright and highly visible.
- Installation of student crossing signs in all directions leading into the intersection.
- Flashing beacons or pedestrian-activated crossing lights to protect students during dismissal hours.
- Assignment of a crossing guard during peak dismissal times. Children’s safety must never be secondary to budget concerns. Every day of delay increases the risk of tragedy.
Please sign this petition to show Adelanto officials that our community will not stay silent while our children remain in danger. Together, we can prevent accidents, protect lives, and make our city streets safer.
