It should not take a tragedy for us to take action. The safety of our children and families must come first.

Every day, children and families in our Lorton community cross the intersection of Silverbrook Road and Plaskett Lane—a crossing that currently has no traffic light, crosswalk, or warning signage. Cars often speed through this stretch with limited visibility, especially during early mornings or evenings. We are deeply concerned that this situation puts lives at risk, especially those of our youngest and most vulnerable residents.

We, the undersigned residents and neighbors, are calling on our state and local officials, Fairfax County DOT to take urgent action to improve safety at this intersection.

Specifically, we request:

-An updated formal traffic safety study conducted at Silverbrook Rd & Plaskett Ln.
-Installation of a traffic light or other traffic-calming measure.
-Clear signage warning drivers of pedestrian activity.
-Consideration of street lighting to improve nighttime visibility.

We are grateful to our community leaders for their service, and we ask for their swift attention to this issue. Our hope is to partner together for a proactive and life-saving solution.
