The Issue

We live in an area where convenient parking is already a challenge.  The issue is compounded by commuter parking from the train station. Now, a new planning application that proposes to develop the former Nayland Rock Hotel into flats and serviced apartments threatens to exacerbate this issue by TAKING AWAY 32 on street essential car parking spaces. We rely on for these spaces for our daily lives.  The developer's plans are based on parking surveys undertaken in November and at night time. The parking problem is at its worst over the summer months and during the day time when commuters, using the nearby train station, also park in Royal Crescent.

The proposed parking plan disregards the needs and concerns of our community and will have severe repercussions on our quality of life.  Our streets will become overcrowded with parked vehicles, making it difficult not only for residents to park but also for emergency services to access certain areas.

We must stand together to voice our objections and urge the planning committee to re-evaluate this proposal, considering the real needs of our community. Alternative solutions exist which can accommodate the development while preserving parking spaces, such as a residents' parking permit scheme, provision of drop off and disabled parking for the new development, and investing in existing town centre parking facilities, which has been implemented successfully in other town centres.

We urge Thanet District Council to prioritise residents' needs and assure that any development plans protects the community and preserves infrastructure and integral aspects like parking, which can directly affect our quality of life.

Join us in opposing this planning application and push for a solution that benefits everyone in our community. Please sign this petition, and let your voice be heard.
