We strongly oppose the proposed inflatable Aqua Park at Carsington Water in Derbyshire and call for the planning application to be refused.

Carsington Water is a beautiful and treasured part of the Derbyshire countryside. It is a place where people come to enjoy nature, watch birds and wildlife, walk, cycle, find peace and appreciate the outstanding landscape.

It should not be turned into a commercial water-based amusement attraction.

We believe the proposed Aqua Park is entirely inappropriate for this location and risks undermining the very qualities that make Carsington Water so special.

Our concerns include:

• Birds & Wildlife and biodiversity: The potential disturbance to birds, aquatic wildlife and sensitive habitats from increased activity, noise and infrastructure.
• Noise and tranquillity: The impact of a busy inflatable water attraction on the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed by walkers, birdwatchers, local residents, families and other visitors.
• Visual impact: The introduction of large, brightly coloured inflatable structures into a valued natural landscape.
• Traffic and overcrowding: The potential for additional vehicles, parking pressures and increased visitor congestion.
• Commercialisation: The gradual transformation of a peaceful countryside destination into an increasingly commercialised leisure attraction.
• The character of Carsington Water: The need to preserve the site's natural setting and existing opportunities for quiet recreation for future generations.

We recognise that recreation has an established place at Carsington Water. However, we believe this proposal goes too far and is incompatible with the peaceful enjoyment and environmental character of the reservoir.

Carsington Water does not need an inflatable Aqua Park to be a valued destination. Its natural beauty, birdlife, wildlife and tranquillity are already its greatest attractions.

We call upon Derbyshire Dales District Council, the relevant landowners and all organisations involved to:

• Reject the proposed Aqua Park planning application.
• Give proper weight to the potential environmental, visual and recreational impacts.
• Protect Carsington Water's birdlife, wildlife, landscape and tranquillity.
• Prioritise the long-term conservation and responsible enjoyment of this important countryside destination.

Once the character of a place like Carsington Water is changed, it may never be fully restored.
