Protect OHV riding in Ocala National Forest

Protect OHV riding in Ocala National Forest
The Issue
Growing up, the sound of dirt bikes revving and the thrill of exploring the Ocala National Forest on ATVs were some of my fondest memories. These experiences kept me and my siblings active, engaged, and connected to nature. Today, I see too many kids glued to their iPads and the internet, missing out on the joys that the great outdoors offer. It's essential for us to encourage outdoor activities for our children and future generations.
Ocala National Forest, a beloved recreational area in Florida, is under threat of being redesignated as a national park. This change, while it might sound positive, will result in the loss of OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) access. Enthusiasts and families who enjoy riding dirt bikes, ATVs, and SXSs will be severely affected. This traditional pastime, which promotes physical activity and family bonding, will be restricted, depriving the community of a vital outdoor pursuit.
Ocala National Forest currently hosts over 600,000 visitors annually who come specifically for its OHV trails. This not only boosts our local economy but also fosters a strong, outdoor-centric community spirit. Numerous studies have shown that outdoor recreation improves physical and mental health and creates opportunities for families to bond away from screens and digital distractions.
Transforming the Ocala National Forest into a national park will have a significant impact on local businesses dependent on tourism generated by OHV enthusiasts. Shops, rental services, and guide operators could face drastic revenue losses, leading to potential job cuts in our community.
Instead of restricting access, we should promote and enhance the existing trails to ensure they are safe, sustainable, and enjoyable for all. By working with local authorities and conservationists, we can find a balance that protects the environment while also preserving our cherished recreational activities.
We must take a stand to prevent the loss of our diverse outdoor opportunities. Let's ensure that future generations can enjoy the same thrills and outdoor experiences. Please sign this petition to keep the Ocala National Forest accessible for OHV activities and protect our community's way of life.
