Like thousands of other New Yorkers, I purchased a hybrid vehicle in good faith, knowing it qualified for the Clean Pass Program. This program has been essential for commuters like me, allowing hybrid and electric vehicle drivers to use HOV lanes on the Long Island Expressway, easing congestion, reducing emissions, and making daily commutes manageable.

Now, with almost no warning, the program is set to end on September 30, 2025, unless Congress acts to reauthorize it. Many of us only learned about this change recently, after investing thousands of dollars in vehicles we believed would qualify for years to come. Car dealers never informed buyers that this vital benefit was disappearing.

Ending Clean Pass will:

Punish responsible drivers who made eco-friendly choices.
Increase traffic congestion and make commuting even more stressful.
Set back New York’s clean energy goals, discouraging future EV and hybrid purchases.
This isn’t just about convenience—it's about fairness, environmental responsibility, and giving New Yorkers the tools to make sustainable choices.

We need Congress and the President to hear us loud and clear:

Protect and reauthorize the Clean Pass Program.
Stand with consumers, clean transportation, and the environment.
