We are hopeful that the government will reconsider its position and continue to support the small businesses and independent drivers who are the backbone of Nova Scotia’s roadwork industry.
One of the last messages we’ve seen suggests there would be little change if the current 80/20 agreement is terminated. But our view is clear: if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Ending this agreement opens the door to cheap labour and safety concerns—it does nothing to directly protect the livelihoods of those who will be impacted.
For anyone unfamiliar, the 80/20 rule requires that 80% of hauling on government roadwork projects be done by local, independent truckers and small businesses.
It’s important to note: if there are issues or concerns with TANS, then those should be addressed directly with them — not by making members and their businesses suffer the consequences.
This fight is about protecting real people, real families, and the future of local businesses. Every signature and share brings us closer to making our voices heard.
Please continue to sign and share the petition!
