I keep coming back to the same point: access isn’t only about whether something technically exists.

A service, opportunity or community space can be “available” and still be difficult to use if the process is confusing, the support is unclear, or the person who needs help is expected to do all the organising and translating themselves.

That matters for confidence too. When people repeatedly hit barriers, they can start to feel as though the problem is their ability — when sometimes the real problem is that the route in was never designed to be straightforward.

That’s why accessible community opportunities, clearer support and genuine inclusion matter. People need a realistic way to take part, not just an invitation in theory.
