When I first began this petition, the goal was simple: save one small café that meant the world to so many of us.
Since then, it’s become part of something much bigger — a national conversation about protecting community spaces before they disappear.
Because of the voices behind this campaign, Parliament heard the message loud and clear.
The Government’s response confirmed that plans for a new “Right to Buy” for community assets are being developed through the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill.
That means, in future, communities could have the first chance to save vital places like cafés, hubs, and halls before they’re sold or closed.
The petition remains open, because every new signature shows that communities still care — and that these spaces matter.
We’re now in the policy-development phase, moving from words to action.
