The Issue

To: Government of Karnataka, Forest Department, Pollution Control Board

We, the concerned citizens, urge immediate action to protect the fragile ecosystem of Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary and its Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ).

This sanctuary is not just a forest—it is a vital biodiversity hotspot, a wildlife corridor, and the source of the sacred Souparnika River, supporting both nature and local communities.

However, serious and ongoing violations are threatening this ecosystem.

⚠️ What is Happening
Illegal commercial activities within the ESZ
Unauthorized constructions and permissions
Untreated sewage being discharged into the Souparnika River
Disturbance to wildlife habitats and ecological balance
Failure of the ESZ Monitoring Committee to enforce rules
Lack of transparency and accountability despite RTI findings
These actions are in clear violation of:

Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972
Environment (Protection) Act, 1986
ESZ Notification dated 13.04.2017
Hon’ble Supreme Court orders on protected areas

🌍 Why This Matters
If we allow this to continue:

River pollution will impact thousands downstream
Wildlife corridors will collapse
Biodiversity loss will become irreversible
Future generations will inherit a damaged ecosystem
This is not just a local issue—it’s an environmental responsibility.

✅ Our Demands
We respectfully demand:

1.        Immediate investigation into all illegal activities within the ESZ

2.        Cancellation of unauthorized permissions and constructions

3.        Strict action against responsible officials and violators

4.        Complete halt to sewage discharge into the Souparnika River

5.        Scientific assessment of ecological damage

6.        Restoration of affected areas and compensation for damage

7.        Transparency—public release of all related records

✊ Call to Action
We urge all citizens, environmentalists, and authorities to act now.
