The Committee for Marshall – Not the Megasite (the Committee) has an urgent need and is collecting donations for a critical fight ahead!
Note that the Committee is separate from The Seedkeepers organization and the Stop the CCP Ford Marshall Megasite Facebook group.
The Committee has registered with the Calhoun County Clerk as a Ballot Question Committee ID#144162.
The Committee is targeting Wednesday, June 7, 2023, to raise as much as possible. Any remaining funds will be used for additional legal fees and informational items (flyers, mailers, etc.) to inform residents of the issues and to encourage them to make an educated decision should the petition for referendum move forward.
The Committee turned in over 810 petition signatures to the Marshall City Clerk on Tuesday, May 30. 577 signatures are required to force the City of Marshall to put the rezoning of the Ford site on the ballot for voters to decide. The Committee believes that the petitions will be rejected by the City due to the inclusion of an appropriation in the zoning ordinance that we petitioned against (this is against the City Charter). The Committee is preparing to fight the rejection in court and firmly believes residents have a right to vote on the issue.
The Michigan Campaign Finance laws govern the treatment of contributions to the Committee. These laws state that:
The Committee can receive an unlimited donation amount by check or online by credit card.
The Committee can only accept a maximum of $20 cash from the same donor per day. In other words, the same donor cannot make more than one cash donation to the Committee in the same day but can donate up to $20 cash on separate days.
All donations to the Committee require the donor’s name and address.
Any accumulative donations by a single donor over $100 require the donor’s name, address, employer’s name and employer’s address. This allows the public to see which companies are contributing and where both sides of a ballot issue are receiving money from.
Please note that donations to the committee are not tax deductible as the Committee is considered as a political organization.
