Protect Lundy's Recreation and Beauty - Friends of Lundy request for FERC license renewal
The Issue

THIS IS NOT A FUNDRAISER. Change.org may ask for a donation, please know, that any donation does NOT go to our efforts to protect Lundy Lake.
Calling all Friends of Lundy, Longtimers, Concerned Citizens, and Neighbors to make our voices heard during the Lundy FERC relicensing process.
The license for the hydroelectric project is up for renewal. This license will be in effect for the next 30 years and will determine how Lundy is managed for generations to come.
We are asking FERC to enact common sense guidelines for the Lundy hydroelectric project. We have concerns about the recreational value and the environmental impact as it relates to the timing and speed of how water is released from the Lake.
Our primary concerns are:
- The high flow releases result frequently in 5 to 30 feet of shoreline being exposed overnight.
- This does not give time for native plants to establish themselves on the shoreline, leaving the shoreline just dirt, rocks and mud pits that prevent access to good fishing spots.
- The erratic draining of the lake makes it hard to shore your boat.
- Access to the boat ramp becomes unusable during the height of the recreational season.
- The lack of protective grasses along the shoreline that allow the fry to grow and make the lake naturally sustainable.
We the Friends of Lundy request:
- Common sense strategy for the outflow verses inflow rates, with the goal of gentle and gradual, rather than jarring, changes to the shoreline.
- Consideration for the lake itself, not just downstream impacts
- Respect for anglers and recreators that use and fish the lake when deciding the timing of lake releases, especially during peak recreation and fishing seasons.
- Financial requirements for the utility companies profiting off the lake to subsidize fish stocking.

Message from petition starter:
Lundy Lake has been an integral part of my family's legacy since the late 1930s. Generations have cherished countless memories by its pristine shores. Lundy Lake is affectionately dubbed the "Gem of the Eastern Sierra," and it holds a special place in the hearts of hundreds of families just like ours.
In recent years, however, we have witnessed a concerning erratic and rapid change to water levels of Lundy Lake. We just came back from two weeks there and each day we left our boats at the water line only to come back in the morning and have them the least 5 feet from the water level as it was drained overnight. We are concerned that this could be destructive to the natural habitats of local plants, fish, and wildlife, and the recreational potential of the lake is diminishing as well.
Please sign this petition to show your support in our endeavor to protect Lundy's next 30 years. Together we can ensure that the "Gem of the Eastern Sierra" lives up to its name for generations to come.
