The Issue

On the 4th March, my friend Mark was cycling to work - something he’s done safely for years. That morning, he never made it.

A driver didn’t see him. The car hit him. He’s now in intensive care with his back broken in two places. The driver never even stopped.

The worst part? This was completely preventable.

  • 91 cyclists were killed on UK roads in 2022.
    Thousands more suffered life-changing injuries.
Most of these collisions happen because drivers fail to see cyclists or misjudge distances.

We always hear the same excuses:

  • “Drivers need to be more careful.”
    “Cyclists should be more visible.”
    “It was just an accident.”

But why are we STILL accepting human error as an excuse for preventable deaths?

The reality is: we have the technology to make our roads safer TODAY. We don’t need to wait years for infrastructure to catch up.

I’m calling on Will Norman, London’s Walking & Cycling Commissioner, to take action now:

  • Launch a real-world safety tech pilot on London’s most dangerous cycling routes within 6 months.

  • Create an emergency fund to accelerate the adoption of technologies that prevent cyclist collisions.

  • Set a deadline for all commercial fleet vehicles in London to incorporate advanced cyclist safety systems.

This isn’t just about Mark—it’s about every cyclist who has been hit, injured, or killed whilst simply riding.

Sign this petition and share it with three people who care about cycling safety. The more voices we have, the harder it is for policymakers to ignore us.
