The Issue

In today's rapidly changing society, it has become increasingly challenging for families like ours who've lived in their communities for generations to find housing within their area. The impact of housing shortages is being felt deeply by many who share a longstanding bond with their hometowns. This is a personal experience and a growing issue that I can no longer ignore—our local neighborhoods are undergoing a transformation that has left many of us feeling like outsiders in our own homes.

A concerning trend is unfolding as more people are displaced from their towns due to these shortages. The influx of newcomers, while contributing to the rich cultural tapestry of our communities, has also led to a rapid increase in demand for housing. This demand is outstripping supply, and as a consequence, the very fabric of our towns is being altered. Families who have contributed to and shaped these communities are now being pushed out.

Many towns have become hubs for relocation, causing even further strain on neighboring areas as people are forced to move elsewhere. The displacement trend is not only making it difficult for long-time residents to secure housing but is also changing the character and identity of these areas. Our towns are becoming unrecognizable, filled with people unfamiliar to those who have been there for decades.

Local councils hold the power to implement changes that can help address these issues. We urge them to prioritize council housing allocations for residents who have lived in these areas for years, ensuring that the legacy of community and history is preserved. Implementing measures to ensure transparency in housing allocations and considering residency duration could be crucial steps toward maintaining the essence of our beloved towns.

We need your support to call upon our local councils to take action, to protect the rights of local families and uphold the integrity of our communities. By signing this petition, you help advocate for a balanced approach that respects both the newcomers and the long-standing residents. Let’s unite in ensuring that our neighborhoods remain inclusive while honoring their rich histories.

Sign this petition to advocate for fair housing opportunities and preserve the communities we cherish.
