Dear Supporters,

We’re pleased to share a welcome development in our campaign to improve safety at the Duke Street pedestrian crossing.

The NSW Minister for Roads, Hon. Jenny Aitchison MP, has formally responded to our concerns, following strong advocacy from our local MP, Hon. Edmond Atalla. In her letter, she confirmed:

✅ The speed limit on Duke Street has already been reduced to 50km/h, and new signage and zigzag line markings have been installed to improve driver awareness at the crossing.

🚧 Most importantly, Transport for NSW has been asked to investigate the installation of a raised zebra crossing, which functions similarly to a speed hump and forces drivers to slow down. This has been nominated under the Towards Zero Safer Roads Program, with a decision expected in early 2026.

This is a positive step forward, and we are hopeful about the outcome of the nomination.

However, if the raised crossing is not approved or delayed, we will continue to push for other critical safety upgrades—such as pedestrian traffic lights or physical speed-calming measures—to ensure the protection of our children and community members.

Thank you again for your continued support. Let’s keep the momentum going. Please keep sharing the petition so we can bring about lasting change.

With gratitude,
Zaheed Dokadia
